Do you su er from lack of sleep? Emotional concerns? The dreaded and well-known “Freshmen 15?” If your answer is yes to any of these questions then you should visit Manhattanville College’s Health and Wellness Center. The Wellness Center, located in Founder’s Hall, has held a one-day event where students and faculty could try out some of their offered facilities. One could get a nice massage in the electric massage chair, aromatherapy, calming meditation music, a demo by the certified nutritionist and much more.
They were also giving away raffle tickets where someone could win a bag full of goodies. Winners will be announced within the next couple of weeks. The Manhattanville College Health and Wellness Center offers many free and fee-based services ranging from nutritional guidance to therapy.
It is very important for students to properly maintain their health during the school year. As students’ homework load and sports ramp up, one should get at least seven hours of sleep per day. Eating well is a must. So, the question is, how does one stay healthy and able to successfully balance work with rest? Here are some ways to do this, according to the Wellnes Center:
Use a planner and make sure to make time for you to relax and rest during longer studying periods.
Get an adequate amount of sleep. Eat lots of fruit and vegetables.
Set aside a couple of hours or so to participate in any extracurricular activities either on or off campus.
Be careful when using alcohol, it can not only affect a person’s judgement.
Keep in contact with your family and friends. Send them a nice email or call them on the phone.
Understand that if you lack decent sleep it can negatively impact your health.
Take the stairs instead of the elevator to burn more calories.
Try your best to avoid ‘all-nighters’
Time management skills are a must.
College students will often nd themselves overwhelmed with
their obligations. Remember, your personal health and sanity comes first. Do not try to do more than you can handle. Trust me, you will regret it if you overload yourself. Get some sleep, eat well and exercise! If you find that you need some extra comfort and support, the Health and Wellness Center will always be there!
