Stepping into Senior Style

By AMANDA CIROCCO

By the time senior year rolls by, most students gravitate towards getting the most use out of college apparel that they have splurged on since freshmen year. But for some, senior year is where they have grown into their own style and become comfortable showing their true expression.

Amanda Phillips and Christie Freer are two fashion-forward seniors who make it into a habit: always looking and feeling their best.

For Christie Freer, the motto is: “I like it, I buy it.” She gravitates toward the comfortable and realistic approach. Her look incorporates high-end and affordable pieces for the average college fashionista.

Starting off, her plaid light blue dress is from H&M, along with her burgundy socks and black sheer tights. This is the perfect twist on the “sweater dress” look by incorporating print and plaid, which is always in style! Her black and brown-lined jacket is Ralph Lauren. While her other pieces are less expensive, it is worth the splurge when it comes to jackets.

The ankle black booties were a steal from Forever 21, and look super expensive. Adding in the burgundy socks gives texture and a pop of color to the overall look. There is just the right amount of heel – perfect for walking to class or going to an internship.

And with the weather we have been experiencing in Westchester, throwing the coat over her shoulder is the perfect trend! Overall, the layering and play of color works perfectly- creating a simple, stylish, outfit that can be taken apart and re-worn again throughout the seasons. The plaid shirt can be worn open with a blouse underneath; the booties can be worn with cut-off shorts in the summer months. Freer is able to mix it up, and add pieces to her collection from the racks of H&M, Forever 21, Topshop and TJ Maxx.

Up next, Amanda Phillips, her motto is: “Unique and trendy.”

Her chromatic colored fur vest is from Zara layered underneath her grey t-shirt dress from Banana Republic. The sheer black tights are from Express but can be found at H&M or Forever 21 like Freer’s. The burgundy knee-high leather boots are from a boutique in Switzerland, but dupes can be found at Steve Madden or Nordstrom’s. Phillips incorporated the perfect amount of accessories to balance her simple pieces.

Her necklace and ring are both by Heidi Daus. Totally worth the splurge if you are a jewelry lover, they can be worked into multiple outfits. Some of Phillip’s pieces are pricier than Freer’s but the use that she can get out of them is worth the buck. Investing in basics will pay off. The fur vest always is in style in the winter, and the t-shirt dress can be toned down to a more casual look by ditching the vest and adding a button down over top.

Her black pea-coat is from Guess and black bag is from TJ Maxx. Phillip’s look is dressy, yet sophisticated and totally rocks it going to class. But she can also repeat this at work, a dinner date or city trip with friends.

Fashion is what YOU make of it! Props to our first two senior fashionistas’ for always putting thought into their outfits without trying too hard! Finding those key pieces to work into your wardrobe will pay off, and layering like Freer and Phillip’s did can be interchanged throughout the seasons.

While Freer and Phillip’s both used the layering technique, they added their own individual additions creating everyday looks.
