Purchase, NY. – Manhattanville College’s Womens’ Soccer team put forth a gallant effort, however it was not enough to beat #18 nationally ranked Misericordia. Throughout the first half, Manhattanville Valiants played defensively. Misericordia, looking to draw first blood, put forth an offensive attack to the tune of 20 shots on goal during the game. Nevertheless, the Valiants, through an incredible display of teamwork and tenacity, turned away 90% of those shots. GK Dolores Diemicke led Manhatanville’s defensive mastery, stopping 18 of the 20 goals shot her way. But in the end, the Valiants were unable to mount an offense and fell to Misericordia 2-0.
Misericordia got on the board during the 57th minute of play when Megan Mahooney, with an assist from Erin McGreal, scored the first goal. Their second goal came in the form of a penalty, which was just out GK Diemicke’s reach.
Manhattanville’s next game will take place against the Fordham Devils, Tuesday night at 7pm. For more information regarding this game and future events, please visit GoValiants.com.
