Manhattanville’s Rugby Club hosted an awards dinner last Friday at Trattoria 632. The dinner was followed by the Rugby Alumni Game, which took place during Quad Jam.

At the dinner Christopher Dahlem, the team’s Coach, and Robert Gilmore, the team’s Faculty Advisor and Director of Financial Aid at Manhattanville, applauded the work of the team’s officers and congratulated the graduating seniors. They also presented awards to distinguished members of the team. The winners of the awards are:

Coaches Award

Austin LaPointe

Most Valuable Back

James Tatum

Most Valuable Forward

Panashe Fundira

Rookie of the Year

Tajay Gray

Christopher Ford, the team’s captain and a senior at Manhattanville, received a Manhattanville Rugby jersey from all of the team’s officers. Ford helped put together the Rugby Club three years ago after the original team disbanded in the eighties.

The Rugby Alumni Game took place the following day during Quad Jam. The team faced off against alumni who played rugby for Manhattanville’s original team in the late seventies, as well as alumni who were part of the new team that came together in three years ago. The alumni won a close game, the final score being 30 – 28.
