The Residence Hall Association hosted a Campus Clean Up event to culminate Earth Week and to help clean up the campus after Quad Jam. The students who participated in the event picked up trash inside the four residence halls and the area surrounding them, including the Quad and the Dammann Field, as well as the area surrounding the Library and Brownson Hall.
“I decided to host the Campus Clean Up event because, as a Resident Advisor, I see the destruction and trash that is left around our residence halls after party days/nights like Quad Jam,” said Alexandra Hoyt, a senior at Manhattanville. “Students are more willing to care for our living spaces when they engage together as a team. I also wanted to collaborate with the Sustainability Committee on Earth Week,” added Hoyt.
The students who participated in the Campus Clean Up also received reduced building damages charges.
Hoyt also expressed the hope that these types of events will continue taking place on campus on a regular basis, especially after parties. “I would like to see students host events like these in the future. Hopefully next year we’ll have events like this after every ‘Nights’ Party (200, 100, and 50 Nights),” she said. “I also would like to see students engage in these sort of programs on the outer “lesser known” edges of campus, such as the back stream by the Lady Chapel and the Environmental Center, or on the edges of campus near the stone walls and the road. It is important to care for all edges of the campus, even the less seen areas.”
