Coming straight out of South Central Los Angeles, California is SchoolBoy Q one of the hottest rap artists out right now with different dynamics of flow. At 16 years old SchoolBoy Q wrote his first rap verse, however it wasn’t until he was 21 years old when he took his rap career serious and to a higher level. In 2008, SchoolBoy Q released his first mixtape titled “ScHoolboy Turned Hustla”. He then released a second mixtape in 2009, titled “Gangsta & Soul”. He then followed up with his first independent album “Setbacks” released in January 2011, which reached number 100 on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling close to 1,000 digital copies in its first week released.
SchoolBoy Q is currently signed with Top Dawg and Interscope record labels. His newest album “Oxymoron” was released February 25, 2014. The whole album “Oxymoron” gives a laid back, California Hip-Hop vibe; with collaborators of Kendrick Lamar, 2 Chainz, ASAP Rocky, Jay Rock, Tyler, The Creator and Kurupt, and different producers like Pharrell. The top songs I recommend on this album are “Man of the Year”, “Collard Greens”, and “Break the Bank”. However the best song on the album is “Collard Greens” featuring Kendrick Lamar who powers the song. “Collard Greens” is a brilliant song, with a catchy melodic chorus. This song is good for DJs to mix, and to play at parties, because of it’s a fun upbeat tune. SchoolBoy Q proves his artistry as a rap artist significantly in his new album Oxymoron, and his musical talents of rapping that has no boundaries.
