SPRING 2014 FASHION

by CARITZA BERLIOZ ’16

Spring has officially arrived and prints are making a comeback! This spring, crop tops, lace, sheer panel shirts, high-waisted skirts and shorts are really making a statement, in addition, mixing and matching prints. While the end of March weather hasn’t let up on the cold wind, we can hope that by April and May we can break out the sandals.

Fashion is always recycled from decades before, and we can really see that this spring with the circa 1950s and 60s inspired looks that many stores are carrying now. A-line and pencil skirts paired with a crop top can bring the outfit together. To have a more edgy outfit, try a jumpsuit with print for a day wear or go for a solid black jumpsuit for a night out.

Mixing and matching prints can be a fun way to style your outfit. Going for a bold print bottom and a white tee can balance it out. In addition, staying with the same print with a top and bottom can work too. The best way to make sure that it isn’t overwhelming on your body is to have the same print on a crop top and with a high waisted shorts or skirt that isn’t too long, that way you’ll break up the pattern.

On the other hand, in Men’s fashion we are seeing leather jackets, solids and stripes on sweaters and shirts. Going for a graphic tee with a light jacket can make it more playful. There is also a lot of mixing and matching solid colors with Men’s day wear. For example, wearing a green sweater paired with dark blue jeans and red shoes is appropriate for this spring style.

We can see that for both women and men fashion styles this spring is very circa 1950s inspired. If you ever watched an episode of Mad Men, you can see that their style is resembling much of what we will find in stores these upcoming weeks if you have not seen them already. Keep checking back bi-weekly for fashion tips and news!
